What is Mid-Winter Fest?

Apple Valley's Mid-Winter Fest is a winter celebration that brings together our community to enjoy food, fun, and activities for all ages. This annual festival began in 1978 and has been an Apple Valley tradition ever since. We invite you to join us for this special community celebration.

Event Information

This year's 2023 celebration will take place at Johnny Cake Ridge Park-West, located at 14255 Johnny Cake Ridge Road. Remember to dress warm! View the event flyer.

Parking

Parking will be available in the Apple Valley Family Aquatic Center Parking Lot, Upper Parking Lot along Johnny Cake Ridge Park-West, and Parking Lots in Johnny Cake Ridge Park-East.

Medallion Hunt

A medallion will be hidden in one of Apple Valley’s 52 parks. Clues will be posted on the AV Parks & Recreation Facebook page starting at 9 a.m. 

Pre-registration is required in order to be eligible to win the $250 prize. Register online through the Apple Valley Parks & Recreation Department. Register now!

9 a.m.–2 p.m.  
Mite’s Hockey Jamboree by Eastview Hockey Association
A Mite level hockey tournament run by and scheduled for Eastview Hockey Association and Firehawks Hockey.
3–4:30 p.m. 
Kidsdance DJEnjoy family-friendly musical hits and classics, along with nonstop contests!

Cart Train Rides
Young children are invited to take a ride on a unique train created just for Mid-Winter Fest. The cart train will be pulled by the Apple Valley Police Department’s UTV.

Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride
A team of horses will be pulling a hay wagon in Johnny Cake Ridge Park.

Frozen Kite Flying
Who says you can’t fly a kite in the winter? Bring a kite or try one of ours!

3-Hole Disc Golf
A 3-hole disc golf course will be laid out in the park.  Bring your own discs or use ours.

Meet the Apple Valley Police and Fire Departments
The Apple Valley Police Department and Apple Valley Fire Department will be on-site with emergency vehicles and will be able to answer your public safety questions.

Small Hill Sledding
Have a blast sledding down small hills. This activity is perfect for little ones!

Ice Skating
Enjoy open skating. Remember to bring your own ice skates.

Recycling Bin Races
Kids do the riding and parents do the pushing. It’s like a shopping cart on ice!

Live Music by Scary Numan
We know you have a secret love of those dancy New Wave hits of the '80s. Scary Numan will also twist things around with Mash-Ups and strange arrangements to make you smile. Of course, we'll throw in a few '70s and even something new just to keep things exciting!
7 p.m.
Fireworks ShowMid-Winter Fest will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show!



Warming Bus and Fire Pits Available

Need to warm up? Hop on the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority Warming Bus or gather around cozy, hardwood heated fire pits during the event.

Food Trucks and Beverages

Food will be available for purchase during the event. Enjoy delicious eats from our food truck vendors!

  • Hot chocolate, cider, and water provided by the Rotary Club of Apple Valley
  • Beer or wine (21+) provided by Rascal’s Bar & Grill 

Scavenger Hunts

Participate in fun scavenger hunts and earn prizes.

Pre-Fest Scavenger Hunt 

Get a headstart on the Mid-Winter Fest fun by participating in this scavenger hunt leading up to the event. Get your friends and family together and take selfies with the 10 items on the Scavenger Hunt List. Submit your photos by January 31. Collect your prize at the Mid-Winter Fest on Saturday, February 4, at Johnny Cake Ridge Park (West).

Medallion Hunt 

A medallion will be hidden in one of Apple Valley’s 51 parks. Clues will be posted on the Apple Valley Parks & Recreation Facebook page beginning at 9 a.m. and will continue every hour until the medallion is found. The person who finds the medallion will be awarded a $250 prize. Register now!
